South Africa’s private minibus “scholar transport” industry runs almost entirely on trust — parents hand their kids to a driver they can’t track and can barely verify. SafeScholar fixes that with live trip tracking, driver verification, and boarded/dropped/arrived alerts on the parent side, and a digital roll-call with document-expiry reminders that makes a driver’s compliance provable instead of assumed. A panic button sits one tap away throughout every trip.

Built three-sided — Expo apps for parents and drivers (same binary, role-gated) and a Next.js console for school and platform admins — on NestJS, Prisma, and PostGIS for real geospatial tracking. Every design decision assumes South African reality: low-end Android devices, expensive data, load shedding, and POPIA-grade handling of children’s location and personal information.
